New Look Committee

As we wave goodbye to season 2017 and look towards season 2018 we would like to thank those who have volunteered their time throughout the past season.

Richard Watkins in particular deserves a special thank you having been President for the last 5 years. More about Richard can be found HERE. We wish Richard all the best in his future endeavors and hope he still finds the time to drop in at the club to catch up.

A club such as ours can only run when the community dedicates time and effort to make it work. Our family friendly club has a proud history and tradition of helping each other out and this is to continue with the volunteers that have accepted roles on the committee for season 2018.

Belmont FC welcomes our new President, Darren Hughes and Vice President, Graham Nuss as well as welcoming back Kathryn O’Neil as Treasurer and Joanne Green as Secretary and Registrar and thanks them for taking on major roles within the club.

The club is still looking for additional volunteers including someone to take on fundraising. If you would like to help the club out in any way at all, please let us know.

Urgent Meeting

Due to the failure of this years AGM, Belmont FC is holding an emergency meeting, Monday 9th October, 6:30pm, clubhouse.

To stop the club folding we need volunteers to keep Belmont FC an independent club. At the moment Belmont FC only has a Treasurer, Secretary-part time, registrar, committee members, small sided co-ordinator and a canteen manager.

The above is NOT ENOUGH to keep our club running.

To Keep Belmont FC we need your presence at this meeting to elect a President, Vice President, someone to share the Secretary role, Social Media Administrator and many small roles.

If none of the above can be filled we have no choice but to hand Belmont FC into Macquarie Football’s hands, to find a President and Vice President from other clubs, this would be a shame after Belmont FC being independent for over 50 years.

The club is in it’s members hands, we hope you can step up and join us at the meeting and volunteer your time, like many have before you.

Volunteers URGENTLY Needed

Parents and Players,

Thank you for a great season this year and congratulations to those teams that made it into the final rounds. It is always a pleasure watching the club grow and to see new or familiar faces throughout the soccer season.

Although, we wish we were writing to you all to end the season on a positive note, this is not the case.

Belmont FC has been a great community organisation for over 50 years, bringing communities together and growing as a club. It is quite disappointing to think that 2017 could potentially be the last season for Belmont FC.

As everyone is aware, we sent various emails in regards to the AGM meeting that commenced on Monday the 18th of September 2017. This meeting required ALL coaches, managers and parents of the club to attend. The purpose of the AGM is to reflect on the great year we have had and to discuss the future of the club. This year, as you are all aware. Richard Watkins and Julie Hicks, have stepped down from their duties to pass on the responsibilities to other members of the community. They have worked tirelessly for 5 years to keep the club going and growing, but unfortunately must move on eventually.

This required other members of the community to step in and volunteer for the positions available.

EVERY YEAR we struggle to gain volunteers, although it does benefit your children, it is quite sad to see no one showing a helping hand. We do appreciate those that do step forward, you know who you are and we thank you.

For the 2018 season we have no PRESIDENT, OR VICE PRESIDENT. These are vital positions to fill, otherwise you will have to find another club for next year. There are all different roles that are needed to be filled.

We are extremely disappointed in the insignificant numbers of participants at this year’s AGM.

So we are calling out for everyone to go to our special meeting that’s been called for the

9th OCTOBER AT 6.30PM AT BELMONT FC CLUB HOUSE.

Thank you for the 2017 season.

Goalkeeper of the Year

In our Presentation Day yesterday, Hayden Jones, one of our U14 players was awarded the Wayne Rose Trophy which is our award for the clubs Goalkeeper of the Year.

Hayden did a sensational job this season as goalkeeper as he has done in previous years. Hayden has shown great dedication to his football, his team and also his club and this is proven every week at training and in every game.

Hayden has gone very close to receiving this prestigious award previously, so it was a proud moment for both him and the club for him to be selected as the recipient of the award this year. Hayden was also the recipient of his 10 Years Service Award at the Presentation Day which shows his outstanding commitment to the club.

Life Members

Today’s Presentation Day saw two people added as Life Members of Belmont FC.

This is considered a great honour and is awarded only to those who have shown a great deal of commitment the the club over many years.

About Richard Watkins

Richard is instantly recognised by many as the man who as been the Belmont FC President for the past 5 years who has worked tirelessly with great dedication, however his work within the club extends far beyond that.

Richard’s dedication to the club has gone far beyond the recognised position of President. Due to limited amount of helpers at the committee level, Richard has had to wear more than one hat the entire time including, but not by any stretch limited to, the Treasurer’s position for 4 of those 5 years. Richard has given the club all of his spare time over the years and has done so with a passion that is rare to be seen.

Some of the things achieved under Richard is the concreted area in front of the club house where the awning (still a work in progress is to cover), the dugouts on Ground 2, an improved irrigation system using water from the installed water tank (a Lake Macquarie City Council project), improved drainage as a result of numerous truckloads of soil which was spread to required areas over the grounds (each year), the ongoing use of the Rye Grass Program which was introduced prior to Richard’s appointment, the installation of the PA System, hosting Finals matches in 2015 and hosting a very successful Grand Final’s Weekend in 2016 the first time Belmont FC hosted Grand Final’s in over 25 years.

Prior to his appointment in the President position, Richard was already heavily involved with helping out the club with most of his efforts being in the Girl’s side of the club, having coached a number of years and taking on positions such as the Girl’s Team(s) Coordinator.

Everything that Richard has done for Belmont FC has been done with the utmost commitment and his efforts are now recognised.

About Clint Starrett

Clint began his Belmont FC journey as a player in Under 6’s and continued on for his entire Junior soccer (as it was called then) career within the club before moving into the Senior ranks. Clint’s first Grand Final win came when he was in our U14’s side but filled in for the U16’s that were Captain/Coached by his brother Jason. Clint was also a part of Grand Final wins with Belmont FC in U15’s, U19’s, O35’s and All Age.

Clint has coached Belmont teams for the last 13 years and in some seasons coached more than one team. Clint has served time on the Committee as the Coaching Coordinator and Vice President but much like Richard, when in those positions assisted in fulfilling other roles to ensure the club was able to do what was required to be a better place for those within it. For the past 8 years Clint has maintained the website and more recently created the new site as well as managing the Facebook page.

Clint is always willing to help out others within the club and is well known for it. He has been involved with this club for approximately 28 years (only missing the years between his Senior playing days and when his eldest son began playing)

If anyone is able to supply images of Richard we’d love to add them to this gallery.

Newcastle Permanent Coach of the Month Winner

The July Newcastle Permanent Coach of the Month Award recipient in the Macquarie Zone is Belmont FC’s Dennis Kennedy. Congratulations to Dennis for receiving the great honor.

Dennis received this awards as Dennis has his team, a team of boys with varying skill levels performing at their best. Dennis is always encouraging, gives everyone a go and best of all ensures that the kids have a great deal of fun in both training and game day.

More information about the award

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Coach of the Month for July 2017 across the zones.

Football enriches character, intelligence, coordination and skill and each season, brave men and women step up to the plate and take on the task of helping our young athletes reach their potential: The Coach.

“Coaches are often the shopfront of our Community Football Clubs,” NNSWF Community Football Manager Peter Haynes commented.

“They can sometimes be the only interaction our players and their parents have with a club.”

Each month, one registered coach from each of NNSWF’s seven Member Zones will be awarded the Newcastle Permanent Community Coach of the Month award.

Each winner will receive a Newcastle Permanent Community Coaching kit consisting of 6 balls, 20 markers, 10 bibs and a whistle, as well as a polo shirt and cap, to assist in fulfilling their roles at their respective club.

At the end of the season, each Zone will nominate one community coach from their pool of winners, to represent their Zone for the opportunity to be named “Newcastle Permanent Community Coach of the Year” announced at NNSWF annual awards night.

“It is coaches like this month’s winners who continue to ensure that their club is a good place to play and that their players are enjoying a positive football experience,” Haynes concluded.

Newcastle Permanent Acting Chief Executive Officer, Terry Millett echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds those who received the award.

“Coaching plays a vital role in developing the skills and attitude of young players, and it is great that Newcastle Permanent can provide the opportunity to recognise the efforts of local coaches who are dedicated to developing their players,” Millett said.
